As winter weather approaches, the possibility of school cancellations due to weather or slick roads again becomes a possibility. We do our best to let you know when cancellations occur, and wanted to provide a quick reminder of our notification procedures.

Below is a summary of the tools we will use to notify you of school closings:

  1. As in year’s past, we will notify local television and radio stations that our schools will be closed. Look for Belton School District #124 in media coverage of school closings.
  2. We’ll also use our text messaging service, Pirate Alerts. If you’re not already subscribed, you can do so by visiting our website, www.beltonschools.org. From the homepage, click on the news tab and select Pirate Alerts. From there, follow the on-screen instructions to subscribe.
  3. We’ll also post the information on our website, in the District Spotlight section.
  4. A new tool we plan to use this year will result in a phone call to your home. You’ll receive an automated message with information about the school closing.
  5. Cancellations of sporting events and other school activities will be posted on our website. It will be updated frequently on days when winter weather threatens.

We are utilizing these different communications tools to ensure we have done everything possible to make sure you receive this important news.

Making the decision to cancel school is not an easy one. The overriding factor is the safety of your children. As you know, winter in Missouri can be unpredictable and conditions can change rapidly and unexpectedly. Please know that we will make every attempt to make the decision to close school as soon as possible to give you adequate time for adjusting your plans.
